New GST Rule: GST Welcome Kit Must Be Collected After Registration
If you’ve recently registered under GST, there’s a crucial update you should be aware of. Under the newly introduced Simplified GST Registration Scheme (Rule 14A of the CGST Act), every new taxpayer is now required to receive a GST Welcome Kit issued by the GST department.
This Welcome Kit is a beginner-friendly guide that contains all key information related to your GST registration. It explains the essential steps of GST compliance, outlines the Do’s and Don’ts, and simplifies the entire system so even first-time taxpayers can easily understand it. The kit covers everything from how to start using GST, services available on the GST portal, return filing basics, and important GST rules — all in simple, jargon-free language. After your registration is approved, the Welcome Kit will be delivered to your registered address.
One vital point to remember:
If the Welcome Kit cannot be delivered due to an incorrect or incomplete address, it will be returned to the proper officer. In such cases, the GST authorities may assume that your declared place of business does not actually exist or that no business activity is being carried out from that location. This can trigger a suspension of your GSTIN under Rule 21 of the CGST Rules.
Such a suspension can disrupt business operations and may even lead to penalties. To avoid this, ensure that the address you provide during GST registration is accurate, complete, and up to date. Even a small mistake can cause non-delivery and an unexpected suspension by the GST department.
